Mission Opportunities
Temple Mission Ministry
Mission Statement
It is the mission of this ministry to reach beyond the four walls of the Temple Church to bring comfort and aid to the rest of the world through Jesus Christ, our Lord. This effort will expand to include both foreign and domestic opportunities as we use our professional skills to improve the health status of those who otherwise would be hopeless and helpless.
Mission History: In 1988, under the leadership of Bishop Michael L. Graves, the Temple Church began to financially support a mission school and orphanage in Haiti. After twelve years of monetary support, a team of four persons visited the deprived nation to assess the needs and to evaluate the progress that had been made there. In December 2000, the team observed a dire need for medical attention and educational support.
In 2001, 2002, and 2003, the church led medical missions to Port-au-Prince and Fonds Parisienne, Haiti composed of health care professionals from across the United States as well as a cadre of lay persons who added needed support to the cause. Because of the political situation, the team chose to cease service in the country until there was some degree of civility restored. Starting in 2005 and up to the present time, medical missions have been employed in Belize, Central America where we have established a great working relationship with the villages. Mission statistics are available in a separate document.
Currently, we are seeking to resume services in Haiti as well as to continue work in Central America. Domestic missions are also being explored.
Mission Scripture: Matthew 25:40b-“…Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Mission Ministry Goals:
-
To continue our annual medical mission trip to Central America
-
To monitor the need in Haiti for the purpose of resuming medical missions there
-
To seek partnerships with other churches and institutions such as to strengthen mission efforts
-
To continue to serve as a resource for Temple Church in domestic mission issues
-
To continue to engage the congregation and others relative to the importance of foreign medical ministry

About half of our team is composed of non-medical people who are taught tasks to insure mission success. Health care professionals (MDs, Dentists, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical students) are always needed.
